Subscription and Billing Terms

Subscription Plans and Billing Structure
Tanqory offers subscription-based services on both a monthly and annual recurring basis. By default, your subscription will auto-renew at the end of each paid term (monthly or yearly) unless canceled. We may provide a free trial period for new users (if offered, the duration will be specified), after which the subscription converts to a paid recurring plan unless you cancel before the trial ends. Tanqory currently does not offer a permanent free-tier (“freemium”) plan beyond any such trial; full access to features requires an active paid subscription.
Monthly and Annual Billing: Subscriptions are charged monthly or annually depending on your plan. For example, a monthly plan renews every month, and an annual plan renews each year. The subscription fee for the next period is automatically charged at the end of each billing cycle until you cancel. We will notify you of upcoming renewals when appropriate (e.g. via email or in-app notification), especially for annual plans or free trials converting to paid plans, in compliance with applicable laws.
Auto-Renewal: All plans are set to auto-renew by default. This means your subscription continues indefinitely on a period-to-period basis (month-to-month or year-to-year) until you take action to cancel. We obtain your affirmative consent to these auto-renewal terms at sign-up, as required in certain jurisdictions (for instance, California law requires “express affirmative consent” to auto-renewal terms). We maintain records of your consent to ensure compliance.
Free Trials: If a free trial is available, you will not be billed during the trial period. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will automatically begin as a paid plan at the standard rate once the trial period expires. We will remind you of an upcoming conversion from free trial to paid subscription if the trial lasts more than a certain length (e.g. California requires a notice 3–21 days before a trial over 31 days renews to a paid term). You can cancel during the free trial to avoid any charge.
Cancellation: You may cancel your monthly or annual subscription at any time by using the account management settings on the Tanqory platform (or the app store settings, if you subscribed via a mobile app). After cancellation, your subscription will not renew further, and no new charges will be made. You will however retain access to the subscribed service features until the end of the current billing period, since you have already paid for that period. (For example, if you cancel an annual plan 8 months in, you can still use the service for the remaining 4 months that were paid, but it will not auto-renew for another year.) No prorated refunds are given for the remaining period of a canceled subscription except as explained in our refund policy (see below).
Payment Methods and Fees
Tanqory supports multiple payment methods for subscription fees to make payments convenient:
Credit/Debit Cards: You can pay with major credit or debit cards. Card payments are processed securely via Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1 Service Provider) using client-side tokenization, which means Tanqory never sees or stores your full card number. You must provide a valid card that we are authorized to charge for the subscription fees. A valid payment method must remain on file for recurring charges. We will attempt to charge your card on each billing date. If the primary card fails, Tanqory may retry billing or use a backup payment method you have provided. All fees are charged in the currency displayed at checkout (if not otherwise indicated, prices are in USD).
Stripe-supported wallets and methods: Through Stripe, additional payment methods may be available depending on your region — for example Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link, SEPA, iDEAL, and selected local e-wallets. The exact set of available methods is shown to you at checkout.
Apple Pay / Google Pay: For users accessing Tanqory via compatible devices or browsers, we support Apple Pay and Google Pay for a faster checkout. These digital wallet payments will be treated similarly to card payments. If you subscribe via mobile app (iOS/Android), the payment may be handled through Apple’s App Store or Google Play billing, in which case their terms (including any tax handling and refund policies) might apply in addition to Tanqory’s terms.
Bank Transfers / Other Methods: (If applicable) Tanqory may support direct bank transfers or other local e-wallets in certain regions. Where available, these options will be presented at checkout. For example, Tanqory’s platform is integrated with global payment gateways like Stripe, Omise, etc., which could enable local payment methods or e-wallets.
Transaction Fees: The prices for Tanqory subscription plans exclude any payment processing fees that may be charged by the payment provider. Tanqory does not generally add surcharges; however, certain payment methods might incur additional charges (for example, currency conversion fees by your bank, or processing fees for specific gateways). Any such fees from the payment provider’s side are typically borne by the subscriber. Tanqory will charge you the stated subscription fee, and that fee is exclusive of taxes and third-party charges. In regions where it’s permitted, Tanqory reserves the right to pass on a payment provider’s service fee to the customer at cost – if this applies, it will be clearly disclosed at the time of payment. (Note: Some jurisdictions prohibit surcharges on consumer credit card payments; Tanqory will comply with all such regulations and not impose fees where not allowed.)
Taxes (VAT/GST): All Tanqory fees are exclusive of applicable taxes unless explicitly stated otherwise. If any sales tax, value-added tax (VAT), Goods and Services Tax (GST), or similar indirect tax is applicable to your subscription purchase, Tanqory will add such tax on top of the advertised price and itemize it on your billing receipt or invoice. For example, customers in the European Union will be charged VAT at the applicable country rate, and customers in Singapore will be charged GST at the prevailing rate, in each case if required by law. These taxes will be calculated based on the billing address you provide and will be collected and remitted in accordance with local laws. The tax amount (if any) will be shown to you before confirming the payment. Tanqory will issue tax invoices that separate the tax amount, as required (e.g., VAT receipts showing the VAT portion). You are responsible for any taxes that apply to your subscription purchase, whether those are collected by Tanqory or self-assessed by you. If you are tax-exempt, you must supply the necessary documentation; once validated, we will not charge tax going forward.
Payment Failure and Grace Period: If a recurring payment fails (for example, due to an expired card, insufficient funds, or any processing error), Tanqory will notify you and attempt to re-charge the payment method on file. We typically make multiple automated retry attempts during a defined grace period (e.g., charges may be retried every few days). If payment remains unsuccessful after a certain duration—such as 28 days from the initial failed attempt—Tanqory reserves the right to suspend access to your subscription services. During this grace period, we will make reasonable efforts to contact you and request that you update your payment information to avoid any interruption in service. If the payment issue is resolved during this period (e.g., you successfully update your payment method and the charge is processed), your subscription will continue without further disruption. However, if payment remains outstanding at the end of the grace period, Tanqory may suspend or terminate your account for non-payment. Suspension means access to paid features is frozen until the outstanding balance is paid in full. You will not be charged for any suspended period; however, payment of the outstanding balance is required to reactivate your subscription. If fees remain unpaid for an extended period (e.g., 60 days), we may consider the account abandoned and permanently terminate the subscription. We encourage you to keep your billing information current to avoid disruption.
Refund Policy and Prorated Cancellations
Tanqory’s subscription fees are generally non-refundable, in line with standard SaaS industry practices. When you choose a monthly or yearly plan, you are committing to that billing period, and charges are final for that period. However, we do consider exceptions and will issue credits or refunds in certain limited situations, as described below. All refunds, when approved, are issued as credits to your Tanqory account (which can be applied toward future invoices) rather than direct cash refunds, unless otherwise required by law or at Tanqory’s discretion.
No Refunds for Change of Mind or Unused Time: If you cancel your subscription or downgrade your plan, we do not provide refunds or credits for any unused portion of the current billing period, unless required by applicable law. For instance, if you purchase an annual plan and choose to stop using the service after several months, the remaining subscription time is not eligible for a refund. Your access will remain active until the end of your current billing cycle (see “Prorated Cancellation” below), but the full amount paid for the period is considered earned by Tanqory upon the start of that billing cycle. This policy also applies to any free promotional months, discounted periods, or other non-cash incentives received during your subscription—they are non-reimbursable.
Full Refunds for Tanqory Errors: If a billing error occurs or Tanqory’s system malfunctioned in a way that caused you to be overcharged or unable to use the service properly, we will investigate and correct the issue. In cases where the fault is on Tanqory’s side, we will issue a full refund or credit for the affected charge. For instance, if you were charged twice in one month by mistake, or charged after you had properly canceled, Tanqory will refund the erroneous charge in full once confirmed. Similarly, if service downtime or a technical issue on our end severely impacted your use of the paid service, we may offer a credit or refund as appropriate. (Note: “Full refund” here typically means we credit your Tanqory account with the amount, which you can apply to future invoices, unless a direct refund is required.)
Partial (Pro-Rated) Refunds in Limited Cases: In certain situations, Tanqory may provide a partial refund or credit. This could occur if you qualify for an exception such as an early termination under a special promotion or if a portion of the service was not delivered as promised. For example, if you paid annually and a feature of your plan was permanently discontinued halfway through your term, we might credit part of your fee proportional to the remaining time or value lost. Likewise, if you utilized a promotional discount on a subscription and then encounter an issue, any refund will account for the promotional value (you will not receive more than what you actually paid). Any partial refunds are typically pro-rated based on the time or services used versus the remaining period. As a hypothetical scenario, if you cancel immediately after an annual renewal and request consideration, we might (at our discretion) issue a credit for the unused months minus any used portion or discounts, aligning with practices under some jurisdictions’ laws that allow pro-rata refunds for services.
No Refunds in Cases of Promotion Misuse or No Cause: If a subscription charge has been processed correctly and the service has been delivered without fault, Tanqory generally does not issue refunds in cases of buyer’s remorse or attempts to avoid payment obligations. In particular, if you subscribed using a special promotional offer, coupon, or discount code, the promotional value is considered fulfilled upon application—such sales are deemed final and are not eligible for refund. Similarly, choosing not to use the service for any portion of your subscription term does not constitute valid grounds for a refund or credit. We maintain a strict no-refund policy for completed or ongoing subscription terms when no technical issue or service failure has occurred. This approach ensures consistent and fair pricing for all users. We strongly encourage all users to take advantage of available free trials to evaluate the platform before committing to a paid subscription. Once a billing cycle begins and a charge is applied, the fee is considered non-refundable—except in extraordinary circumstances explicitly stated in our Refund Policy.
Prorated Cancellation: If you cancel your subscription before the end of a billing cycle, your account will remain active at your current service level until the end of the period you’ve already paid for, but it will not auto-renew thereafter. This means there is effectively no “proration” for mid-period cancellations – you simply retain access for the remainder of the term you paid, and the cancellation will take effect at the next renewal date. For example, if you cancel a monthly plan 10 days into the month, you can continue to use the service for the remaining 20 days of that month; your cancellation stops the next month’s charge, and the subscription ends thereafter. Similarly, annual plan customers who cancel will keep their premium features until the end of their paid year, after which the account can be downgraded or closed. No new charges will be made once a cancellation is in effect. This policy ensures fairness and consistency, and it is clearly communicated to avoid any surprise charges.
If Tanqory ever does agree to issue a refund or credit for an unused portion of a term (as a gesture of goodwill or due to a specific refund policy in a region), such refund will typically be in the form of account credit (usable toward future Tanqory services) rather than a direct cash refund, unless otherwise required. The credited amount can be applied automatically to your next invoice(s). We will inform you of any credit via email or in your billing portal. Account credits may expire after a certain period if not used, depending on jurisdictional regulations regarding gift credits (we will notify you of any expiration date if applicable).
Changes to Pricing or Subscription Features
From time to time, Tanqory may need to update its subscription pricing, plan structure, or the features included in each plan. We strive to do this sparingly and transparently. If we adjust our prices or make material changes to the service or plans, we will provide you with advance notice and details of the change:
Price Changes: Any increase in subscription fees for your plan will be communicated to you at least 30 days in advance (unless a longer notice period is required by law). Notification will be sent via email to the address on your account and/or presented in-app. The notice will clearly state the new price, the effective date, and instructions on how to accept the change (if required) or how to cancel if you do not agree. Your continued use of Tanqory past the effective date of a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price. If you do not agree to a price increase, you may cancel your subscription before the new rate takes effect. For monthly subscriptions, price changes typically take effect in the next billing cycle after the notice period. For annual subscriptions, the new price would apply upon your next renewal. (Note: Some jurisdictions like California mandate at least 7 days’ notice for fee changes; Tanqory’s standard 30-day notice exceeds most requirements to ensure customers have sufficient time to react.)
Plan and Feature Modifications: Tanqory may introduce new subscription plans, retire old plans, or make changes to the features available on a given plan (for example, adding new features to a Premium plan, or moving a feature from a basic plan to a higher tier). If we make a significant change that affects the core features or value of your plan, we will also give prior notice (generally 30 days). Minor enhancements or additions (that do not remove features) may be rolled out without prior notice, as they only increase value. In cases where features are removed or shifted between plans, we will inform affected customers. Tanqory does not guarantee perpetual availability of any particular feature under a specific plan, and features may evolve over time. However, we won’t remove or disable a feature during your ongoing paid period without offering an alternative or compensation. We endeavor to avoid any disruption – often, if we discontinue a feature, it is replaced with an improved version. If a plan restructuring occurs (say we create a new tier and move some users to it), we will clearly communicate how existing subscribers are impacted and what choices they have. Our goal is to align with common SaaS practice: for example, many services reserve the right to modify subscription offerings with notice. By maintaining your subscription after being informed of changes, you indicate acceptance of the new terms or configuration.
Promotions and Trials: If we run promotional pricing (e.g., an introductory discount for a few months) or free trial offers, these are temporary and subject to the specific terms of the promotion. After a promotion period ends, the subscription will continue at the normal price. We will clarify the duration and post-promo price in the offer details. Any changes to promotions (such as early termination of an offer, or extension) are at Tanqory’s discretion, but once you’ve locked in a promotional deal, we will honor it for the promised term.
Notice Delivery: Advance notices of price or material service changes will be provided in a clear and conspicuous manner. Typically, an email will be sent to the primary email on your account, and a message or banner may be shown in your account dashboard. The notice will include the effective date of change and instructions on actions you can take (such as how to cancel, downgrade, or switch plans if you choose). We encourage you to keep your contact information up to date in your account settings so that you do not miss these important notices.
In all cases, Tanqory will comply with applicable laws regarding modifications of contract terms. For instance, certain jurisdictions require explicit customer consent for changes beyond a certain magnitude, or allow consumers to cancel without penalty if they reject a change. We will abide by those rules as applicable in the region (see Annex for region-specific terms). As a general principle, we aim to treat our subscribers fairly and avoid surprise changes. If you feel a change has significantly negatively affected you, please contact us – we will review on a case-by-case basis and try to reach a fair resolution (for example, providing a prorated refund or credit if appropriate).
Region-Specific Terms (Annex)
Different countries and jurisdictions have specific laws governing automatic renewals, electronic payments, and consumer rights for subscriptions. This section provides country-specific terms and disclosures that apply to you based on your location (residence or where you sign up from). These terms supplement the policies above. If there is any conflict between the general terms and these region-specific terms, the provision that is more protective of the consumer will apply, or as required by law.
European Union (EU)
EU consumer protection law provides strong rights regarding subscriptions and contracts. If you are an EU-based consumer, the following terms apply:
14-Day Cooling-Off Right: Under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), you have the right to withdraw from your subscription contract within 14 days of signing up, without giving any reason. This 14-day “cooling-off period” starts from the day after the contract is concluded (or the day after you start your subscription service). If you cancel within this period, we will refund your payment. However, please note: if you agree to start using the service immediately and the service is fully delivered within those 14 days, EU law allows Tanqory to require payment for the portion used or to have you waive the withdrawal right for fully performed services. For digital services that begin immediately, we may ask for your explicit consent to waive the right of withdrawal at the time of purchase (as permitted by Article 16 of the Directive). If you do not provide consent to waive, we will delay provisioning the service until the 14-day period ends, or we will only charge a proportional amount if you cancel early and had used the service. Any refund for a cancellation within the cooling-off period will be processed without undue delay and within 14 days of your notification of withdrawal.
Clear Information and Confirmation: EU law requires that we provide you with clear information about the subscription offer, including the price, term, and how to cancel, before you are bound by the contract. We present these details in our checkout process and in the terms above. After you subscribe, you will receive an email confirmation summarizing the key terms (this acts as the durable medium confirmation of the contract, per EU rules). We also ensure that cancellation is as easy as sign-up, per guidance under EU law. This means you can cancel online through your account settings without unnecessary hurdles. (Notably, a 2023 amendment to the Consumer Rights Directive requires a “prominent cancellation mechanism” for online services. Tanqory either provides a one-click cancel button or a straightforward process on our website for EU consumers to terminate their subscription at any time.)
Automatic Renewal Disclosure: In the EU, “continuous” or automatically renewing contracts must not be unfair or hidden. We explicitly inform you during sign-up that the subscription will auto-renew until canceled, in compliance with the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive and local implementations. Our practices follow EU consumer law standards to avoid “subscription traps”. The European Commission and national authorities expect that cancelling a subscription should not be more complex than subscribing, and we adhere to that: you can cancel online with a few clicks and without having to contact customer service, and we will not use misleading designs to dissuade you (no dark patterns).
Payment Authorization (PSD2 Compliance): If you pay with a credit/debit card issued in the EU, the initial transaction will go through Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) as required by the Payment Services Directive (PSD2). Subsequent recurring charges might be exempt from SCA (as “merchant-initiated transactions”), but if your bank requires additional authentication at any point, we will prompt you accordingly. If a recurring payment is denied due to SCA requirements, we will notify you to re-authenticate. We also abide by any forthcoming EU Payment Services Regulation rules regarding refund rights for merchant-initiated transactions, though we note industry concerns that new proposed rights (e.g., an 8-week no-questions refund for subscriptions) may conflict with existing consumer protection logic. Until laws change, our refund policy remains as stated above; we’ll adjust if new EU regulations mandate additional refund options.
EU Digital Content Directive: If our service qualifies as “digital content or digital service” under EU Directive (EU) 2019/770, we ensure it conforms to the contract. In case of a lack of conformity or a service failure, EU consumers are entitled to have the issue brought into conformity, or to a proportionate reduction in price or refund if the problem is severe and cannot be fixed in a reasonable time. We will provide the required support and remedies in such cases, as per EU law.
Data Protection: (While not exactly a billing term, EU users should know) we comply with the GDPR regarding handling of your personal data (billing information, etc.). Please see our Privacy Policy for details. Your payment information is processed in accordance with GDPR requirements, and we do not store full payment details on our servers; our payment processors are PCI-DSS compliant.
United Kingdom (UK)
For subscribers in the UK, similar protections to the EU apply, with some UK-specific requirements:
14-Day Cooling-Off: UK consumers have a right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 to cancel a new subscription contract within 14 days from the day after the contract is concluded. This is equivalent to the EU cooling-off right. If you exercise this right, we will refund you (minus a pro-rata amount for any services used if you requested to start the service immediately). Our process for UK cancellation is straightforward: contact us or use the online cancellation function within 14 days to notify us of cancellation, and we will process your refund within 14 days of your notice (or of our receipt of returned goods, if any were provided as part of the service).
Ongoing Subscription Cancellation Rights: The UK is in the process of enhancing its consumer protection laws for subscriptions via the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act (DMCC Act). Under these upcoming rules, consumers will not only have the initial 14-day cancellation right, but also a renewal cooling-off right – meaning after an automatic renewal occurs, consumers will have 14 days to cancel and receive a refund for the renewal. For example, if your annual subscription auto-renews, you could cancel within 14 days after renewal and receive a pro-rated refund. Although this specific rule is not yet in force (anticipated by 2026), Tanqory intends to honor the spirit of these protections. This means if you forgot to cancel before a renewal and contact us shortly after the renewal, we will work with you on a case-by-case basis, and in reasonable situations (no significant usage after renewal) we may provide a refund of that renewal charge as a courtesy, especially if you contact us within 14 days. Once the UK law formally requires it, we will fully comply and offer this as a right to all UK consumers.
Pre-Contract Information: We provide UK consumers with key information about the subscription before you purchase, as required by law (the price, contract length, auto-renewal terms, how to cancel, etc.). We make sure this information is clear and prominent at the point of sign-up (e.g., on the checkout page) in compliance with UK regulations. You shouldn’t have to hunt for the terms – they’re presented upfront. All the terms are also in our Terms of Service which are accessible any time.
Easy Cancellation (“Easy Exit”): The UK authorities (Competition & Markets Authority, CMA) expect that cancelling a subscription should be simple. Under the new DMCC Act provisions, businesses will be required to ensure that if you signed up online, you can also cancel online in a similar manner. We already facilitate online cancellation through your account dashboard without undue hurdles. You will not be forced to call or answer retention questions to cancel (unless you prefer to contact support for help). Additionally, the forthcoming UK rules emphasize that the cancellation method should be as straightforward as the method of sign-up and not require more steps or effort than necessary. Tanqory’s cancellation process meets this standard: a few clicks in your account settings will cancel your subscription, and we send an email confirmation of cancellation. We do not hide the cancellation option nor create a lengthy process to discourage it.
Renewal Reminders: The UK government has proposed that for longer-term subscriptions, companies must send reminder notices to consumers about upcoming renewals. Specifically, if you are on a monthly rolling subscription, a reminder is suggested before the sixth monthly payment and periodically thereafter; if on an annual subscription, a reminder should come at least once before each yearly renewal. Although these are not yet mandatory, Tanqory plans to implement reasonable renewal reminders for UK customers. For annual plans, we will send an email in advance (for example, 30 days prior to renewal) reminding you of the upcoming renewal and how to cancel if you do not wish to continue. For monthly plans, we may send an occasional reminder if you’ve been subscribed for a long time without interruption (e.g., at the 6-month mark, as per proposals). These communications are to help you avoid unwanted charges, in line with UK best practices.
Contract Expiry and Changes: If you cancel your subscription or it expires, UK law (Consumer Rights Act 2015 on fair terms) requires that no excessive notice periods or hidden penalties apply. We do not impose any termination penalties beyond the current billing period’s charge. If your subscription term ends (for a non-renewing fixed term) we won’t automatically extend it without your consent. If we were ever to move you from one plan to another (say, we retire a plan), we would inform you and if it was effectively an “end of contract”, we’d treat it fairly (no sneaky charges). The new rules also talk about End of Contract notices (to confirm when you’ve canceled, etc.) – we already send a cancellation confirmation email which serves this purpose, and we’ll ensure it meets any specific format required (within 24 hours for online cancellations, as proposed).
Unfair Contract Terms: The UK’s unfair terms law means we cannot enforce terms that create a significant imbalance to your detriment (especially in standard consumer contracts). We have crafted these terms with fairness in mind. For example, any auto-renewal is clearly disclosed (so it’s not a surprise, which could be unfair), and we avoid one-sided lock-ins. If any term in these Subscription Billing Terms were found to be unfair or not in compliance with UK law, it would not affect the remainder of the terms, and we would abide by the legal requirement instead. Our intention is that everything here is compliant and fair.
Note on Future Changes: The UK is actively updating subscription laws. We are closely monitoring the DMCC Act’s implementing regulations. As those come into force, we will update these terms accordingly to ensure full compliance (likely including explicit renewal cooling-off cancellation rights with refunds, mandatory reminder intervals, etc.). You can always find the latest Subscription Terms on our website. In the meantime, rest assured that we aim to follow the CMA’s existing Guiding Principles for Subscription Contracts, which emphasize transparency, upfront consent, and easy exit.
United States (California & Federal)
If you are a customer in the United States, the following terms apply, with special emphasis on California law (which has strict rules for auto-renewals) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requirements:
California Automatic Renewal Law (ARL) Compliance: For subscribers in California, we comply with California’s Automatic Renewal Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §§17600 et seq.). This means before you complete your purchase, we clearly and conspicuously disclose the auto-renewal terms: that the subscription will continue until canceled, the recurring charges and frequency, the cancellation policy, and the length of any trial (if applicable). You are required to give affirmative consent to these terms (for example, by checking a box or clicking a button that indicates agreement) before your subscription purchase is completed. We also send a confirmation email that includes the auto-renewal terms and instructions on how to cancel, as required by law.
Easy Cancellation (“Click to Cancel”): If you signed up online, California law (effective July 1, 2022 and further strengthened in 2025) requires that you must be able to cancel online with relative ease. Tanqory provides an online cancellation method through your account settings. Specifically, for California consumers, if you wish to cancel, you can do so immediately online, at will, without any unnecessary steps. We provide either (a) a prominently located “Cancel Subscription” link or button in your account profile that can be used to initiate cancellation in a few clicks, or (b) an easy online form or email-based cancellation that does not require you to contact support by phone. If you encounter any trouble, our customer support will assist, but California law ensures you do not have to go through extraneous steps (like mandatory phone calls or in-person visits) just to cancel. We also follow the latest amendment which says if you’re offered a save offer or incentive to stay, we simultaneously provide a “neutral” button to finalize cancellation without accepting the offer. In short, the process to cancel is straightforward and mirror’s the sign-up medium (since you enrolled on the website, you can cancel on the website).
Renewal Reminders: In compliance with California law (as amended in 2022), Tanqory will send renewal reminder notices in certain cases: for any free trial lasting longer than 31 days, we will send you a notice 3–21 days before the trial converts to a paid subscription, reminding you of the upcoming charge and how to cancel if you do not wish to continue. For any annual subscription (or any subscription with an initial term of one year or more), we will send a notice 15–45 days before the renewal date, stating that your plan will renew automatically unless canceled, the length of the renewal (e.g. one year), the amount of the charge, and how to cancel (including a direct link to the cancellation page). These notices will be sent in a manner that is readily seen (e.g., via email to the address on file, with a clear subject line). Additionally, California now requires that all renewing subscriptions (regardless of term) get an annual reminder if they are continuous: thus, if you are on a month-to-month plan that doesn’t otherwise prompt a notice, Tanqory will send you an annual notice every 12 months summarizing your subscription details (product, billing frequency and amount) and reminding you how to cancel if you wish. This annual notice helps ensure you’re aware you are still enrolled.
Notice of Material Changes: If Tanqory ever changes the price or other material terms of your subscription for California customers, we will obtain your affirmative consent to the new terms before implementing them. Specifically, California’s ARL amendments require that a price increase (that results in a higher charge than you agreed to) will be communicated via a clear notice between 7 and 30 days before the change, and you must opt in to the new price (or at least not opt out) for it to take effect. We will include in that notice instructions on how to cancel if you don’t agree to the new price. If you do not consent, we will not renew your subscription at the new price (we may allow your current term to expire). This goes beyond our general 30-day notice policy, giving California users an extra layer of protection for price changes.
Free Trials and Promotions (California): If you sign up with a free trial or a promotional discounted period, we will disclose what will happen at the end of that period. California law specifically mandates notice for free/promotional periods over 31 days, which we provide as mentioned. Also, if you accepted a free gift or bonus as part of a promotion, California law states that those are yours to keep even if you cancel (unless the terms of the promotion said otherwise), so we will not charge you or ask for the gift back if you cancel in accordance with the offer terms.
Refunds (California): California law does not mandate a general cooling-off period for online services (unlike EU/UK). However, if you believe you were wrongfully charged (for example, you canceled but were still charged), please contact us – we will investigate and if we find an error, we will refund the charge. Our general refund policy (no refunds for change of mind) applies in California as well, except that if any California-specific regulation requires a refund in a scenario, we will comply. For instance, the California ARL doesn’t force refunds unless the law was violated. We aim not to violate it; but if a court or authority found we failed to get proper consent, that charge would be unlawful and refundable.
FTC “Click to Cancel” Rule: The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has proposed amendments to its Negative Option Rule (often called the “Click to Cancel” requirement) that would apply nationwide. Tanqory is designing its processes in anticipation of these rules. That means even outside of California, we intend to offer easy online cancellation, and clear reminders of subscription terms. If the FTC rule (once effective) imposes any additional requirements (such as an annual reminder or an extra confirmation of cancellation offers), we will implement those as required.
State Laws: A number of U.S. states have their own automatic renewal laws (New York, Virginia, Vermont, etc.), many of which closely mirror California’s. Tanqory’s compliance with California’s stringent law generally puts us in compliance with others. For example, some states require a clear disclosure of auto-renewal and cancellation instructions (which we do), or a reminder for long-term contracts (which we also do). If you reside in a state with specific requirements that differ, we will follow those. For instance, New York requires cancellation online if the subscription was made online, which we provide; Vermont requires certain clear language, etc., which we incorporate. We have written these terms to align with the broadest requirements. If you ever feel your state’s law is not being met, let us know so we can address it.
Note: These U.S. provisions ensure you are never unknowingly locked into a renewal. You will always have control to cancel and we will honor your cancellation immediately. If you cancel, we will send a confirmation (California requires this within an email, which we do). If you ever have trouble cancelling, you can also contact our support, and we will process it, honoring the date of your first attempt. We want your experience to be positive – we believe in earning your continued business, not tricking you into it.
Canada
For customers in Canada, the laws on automatic renewals and cancellation vary by province but generally are aimed at protecting consumers from unwitting renewals and difficult cancellation processes. Tanqory’s practices comply with these laws:
Contract Disclosure and Consent: Canadian consumer protection laws (federally and provincially) require clear disclosure of any automatic renewal terms at the time of sign-up. If your subscription is set to auto-renew, we will make that obvious in the purchase flow and ask for your agreement. For example, in Ontario, under the Consumer Protection Act, a fixed-term contract cannot be automatically renewed for another fixed term without your explicit consent; otherwise, it must continue on an open (indefinite) basis. What this means: if you sign up for a one-year plan, Tanqory will not automatically lock you in for another full year without giving you a chance to cancel. By default, when that year is up, we treat it as continuing month-to-month (or the smallest period) if allowed, or we will send you advance notice and obtain your approval for another year. We also abide by requirements such as Quebec’s, where a fixed term beyond 60 days can only renew to an indeterminate term (not another fixed term) and requires a notice.
Advance Notice of Renewal: In many provinces, merchants must send you a reminder or notice before a significant renewal. For instance, Ontario’s law (Ontario Regulation 17/05 under the CPA) effectively prohibits automatic renewal of most fixed-term consumer contracts unless notice is given and you don’t object. Likewise, Quebec’s law requires a written notice to the consumer between 90 and 60 days before the end of an initial term longer than 60 days, informing them of the upcoming renewal date. Tanqory will provide such notice where applicable. So if you’re in Quebec and you signed a yearly contract, expect an email from us about 2–3 months before renewal reminding you that it will renew and how you can cancel or modify it. If we fail to provide the required notice in Quebec, you would have the right to cancel at any time without penalty (and we certainly don’t want that situation, so we will send the notice). In Ontario, as the user example indicates, a notice at least one month before renewal is expected – we follow that guideline and will typically reach out around 30 days in advance for annual plans in Canada.
Right to Cancel and Refunds: Canadian consumers generally have robust cancellation rights. If your contract renews and you didn’t want it to (especially if proper notice wasn’t given), you often have the right to terminate and get a refund of the renewal. For example, some provinces allow you to cancel a renewal within a certain period (Ontario allows a consumer to retract agreement to renew without cost or penalty by notifying the business within a specified time). Tanqory will honor any such provisions – if you’re a Canadian customer and you find yourself renewed against your wishes, contact us promptly. If the law entitles you to a refund of that renewal, we will provide it. Our policy is to never enforce unwanted renewals: if you forgot to cancel but notify us quickly after renewal, we will usually offer a prorated or full refund according to what local law dictates and what is fair. We also never impose an unreasonable cancellation fee. At most, we expect payment for the services you used or that were delivered up to cancellation, consistent with Canadian law.
Continuous Services: If your plan is month-to-month with no set end, Canadian laws on “future performance contracts” still require that you can cancel at any time. For instance, Quebec explicitly gives consumers the right to terminate an indeterminate contract at any time by sending notice to the merchant. Tanqory fully respects this: you can cancel a month-to-month (or any open-ended) subscription whenever you want via your account, and we will not charge further (except we won’t refund the current month already paid, per our standard policy, unless required). We do not require, for example, 60 days notice to cancel or anything burdensome (some gym memberships did that – we do not). Once you cancel, we stop charging from the next cycle and, if applicable, will confirm cancellation in writing.
Form of Notice & Language: Where Canadian law requires certain language or format, we comply. For example, Quebec’s laws require consumer contracts and related notices to be in French (unless the consumer expressly agrees to English). We can provide our terms and any notices in French upon request for Quebec customers. Similarly, any notice we send in Canada will be in a durable medium (like email or letter) that you can keep for your records.
Cooling-Off for Direct Sales: Note, Canada (at the federal level) doesn’t have a blanket cooling-off period for all internet sales like the EU does. However, some provinces have cooling-off rights for specific situations (e.g., door-to-door sales, certain personal development services, etc.). These generally won’t apply to Tanqory’s online software service, except possibly if considered a “distance sales contract” in Quebec with required contract details and cancellation rights if information is missing. We ensure to include all legally required information in the contract to avoid any scenario where you’d have an extended cancellation right due to a disclosure omission. In any case, our generous refund approach in the first days of service likely covers any such obligations.
Electronic Payments (Pre-Authorized Debits): If you pay by a method that’s considered a “pre-authorized debit” (such as direct withdrawal from a bank account), Canadian banking rules (Canadian Payments Association Rule H1) require that you provide a mandate and have the ability to cancel that mandate. By agreeing to these terms and the payment authorization, you’re providing that mandate. You can revoke it by canceling your subscription (and we cease the debits). If any issue arises with billing to a bank account, your rights under your banking agreement allow you to dispute unauthorized debits. We will cooperate with any such process fully.
In summary, Tanqory’s policy in Canada is to be transparent and flexible: you will not be stuck with unwanted renewals, and you can cancel whenever by the same method you signed up (online). We follow the strongest provincial law applicable to your situation, and in multicultural Canada, we can communicate in the appropriate language (English or French) as required. If you feel any term or action of ours doesn’t meet Canadian consumer law, we encourage you to let us know and we will promptly address it – customer trust and legal compliance are paramount for us.
Brazil
For customers in Brazil, the Código de Defesa do Consumidor (Consumer Defense Code) provides several protections:
7-Day “Right of Regret” (Direito de Arrependimento): Under Article 49 of the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code, if you purchase our service through the internet or other remote means, you have the right to cancel the contract within 7 days from the date of your purchase or from the date you receive access to the service, whichever is later, without any penalty. This is a no-questions-asked cooling-off period. To exercise this right, you must notify us (for example, via email or the contact form) within the 7-day window that you want to cancel. We will then refund you the full amount you paid. The law requires that the refund be made within 30 days of your cancellation, but we aim to process it much faster, typically within 5-10 business days. After 7 days, this automatic right ends. (Note: If you continue using the service beyond those 7 days, you are affirmatively accepting the contract.) We note that this Brazilian rule is similar to EU’s 14-day period but is 7 days; we honor it strictly.
Continuing Subscriptions: Brazilian law does not explicitly forbid automatic renewals, but any clauses that could be considered abusive (for instance, making it very hard to cancel) would be void. We ensure that the auto-renewal terms are clear and agreed by you. We also make cancellation simple: you can cancel through your account online at any time. Brazilian consumers should not have to undertake any burdensome process to cancel. We provide support in Portuguese if needed for any cancellation issues.
Transparent Information: In compliance with Brazilian law, Tanqory will always provide you with clear information about pricing, terms, duration, and how to cancel. All this should be provided in Portuguese as well (we will localize our terms interface for Brazilian users). If any important information was not provided, the consumer may have additional rights to cancel; thus we take care to disclose everything upfront.
Tax (Impostos): If applicable, Brazilian customers will see taxes like ICMS or ISS listed or included in the price depending on the service type and jurisdiction. We comply with Brazilian tax law on digital services (e.g., for SaaS, certain municipal service taxes may apply). Any tax is either included in the displayed price or added at checkout and indicated clearly on the receipt. We will issue nota fiscal as required for Brazilian customers, itemizing the price and taxes.
Payment and Chargebacks: If you pay with a Brazilian credit card or boleto, local law allows you to dispute unauthorized charges. We of course will not charge anything beyond what you authorized. In case of any billing dispute, Brazilian consumers can contact their card issuer or consumer protection agencies (Procon). We prefer you contact us first to resolve any issue amicably – we will adhere to Brazilian consumer authorities’ guidance.
Language and Venue: The Consumer Defense Code stipulates that contracts with consumers should be in Portuguese (especially for adhesion contracts). Tanqory either provides a Portuguese version of these terms or key points in Portuguese on our Brazil site. In case of any divergence, the interpretation under Brazilian consumer law will prevail. We also note that any forum selection or waiver of rights that contradicts the Code is not enforceable. We do not seek to limit Brazilian consumers’ rights – for example, you retain the right to go to court in Brazil if needed despite any arbitration clause in our general Terms of Service (Brazil’s law might consider mandatory arbitration invalid in consumer settings). Our hope is of course to resolve any issues without legal action, in line with the spirit of the Code.
Overall, Brazilian consumers have a strong safety net – Tanqory respects all Brazilian consumer rights, including the fundamental 7-day regret period and the prohibition of abusive practices. Our cancellation and refund policies are designed to be compliant and user-friendly for Brazil. Should you have any questions about your rights under Brazilian law, our support team (Portuguese-speaking) will assist you.
Singapore
For customers in Singapore, Tanqory adheres to local laws and guidelines regarding subscriptions, payments, and consumer rights:
Transparent Fees and GST: All prices for Singapore customers are displayed clearly, and 9% GST (Goods and Services Tax) will be applied at the prevailing rate set by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS). The current rate of 9% has been in effect since 1 January 2024 (rate history: 7% through 31 December 2022, 8% from 1 January 2023, 9% from 1 January 2024). We will break out the GST amount in your invoice. Billing entity (effective 4 June 2026): New subscriptions are billed by Tanqory Inc. (Delaware, USA) via the Tanqory Inc. Stripe (US) account; legacy SG-Stripe billings continue to issue from TANQORY PTE. LTD. (Singapore), which retains its Singapore tax-invoicing obligations for those legacy flows. Canonical:
_compliance/sources-of-truth/10-pricing.yaml#contracting_entity. No hidden charges will be added beyond the subscription fee and applicable GST or payment provider fee as disclosed.Auto-Renewal Consent: Singapore’s consumer protection law (Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, CPFTA) prohibits misleading or deceptive practices. We ensure that the auto-renewal nature of the subscription is clearly disclosed and not misleading. When you subscribe, you actively check out with knowledge that it’s a recurring charge. While Singapore doesn’t have a specific “automatic renewal law” requiring checkboxes like California, Tanqory follows best practices by obtaining your agreement.
Cancellation: You can cancel online anytime. Singapore does not mandate a cooling-off period for online services in general (unless it falls under something like a direct sales solicitation, which typically doesn’t apply purely online). However, Tanqory voluntarily allows refunds in line with our global policy and any promotion terms. We won’t subject Singapore consumers to unfair terms like long-term lock-ins without exit. Under the CPFTA, if a term is excessively one-sided or if we made a false representation, it could be an unfair practice – we avoid that by being upfront and fair.
Electronic Transactions Act: Singapore’s ETA recognizes electronic records and signatures. Your agreement to these terms and the subscription electronically is valid and binding. We maintain records of your consent and transactions. Should you need any record (like proof of subscription or cancellation), we can provide it.
Payment Security: Subscription payments are processed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 Service Provider. Tanqory operates under SAQ-A scope — client-side tokenization means no cardholder data is stored, processed, or transmitted by Tanqory's own infrastructure. Tanqory is not itself a payment service provider; we partner with Stripe and comply with applicable Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) guidelines for our payments role. Wallet methods routed through Stripe (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link, etc.) inherit Stripe's PCI compliance plus the wallet provider's own security controls.
Recurring Payment Authorizations: If your subscription is billed to a credit/debit card, Singapore banks might participate in schemes requiring strong customer authentication (similar to 3-D Secure). The first payment might trigger an OTP verification. Subsequent recurring charges typically won’t require OTP each time (per MAS guidelines on recurring transactions), but if your bank ever declines a recurring charge pending verification, we’ll let you know.
Consumer Specific Protections: While Singapore doesn’t have an equivalent of the EU cooling-off for general e-commerce, it does have a 5-day cancellation right for certain specific contracts (like timeshare or direct sales contracts above a certain value, under the CPFTA Cancellation of Contracts Regulations). Tanqory’s service likely doesn’t fall under those categories. Nevertheless, if for any reason you believe a statutory cancellation right applies, we will honor it. In typical cases, we handle cancellations as per our policy (immediate stop of renewal, no refund for past usage).
Unfair Terms and Enforcement: Singapore’s case-by-case approach means if something seriously wrong were to happen (for example, a prolonged outage of service), consumers could seek remedies. We commit to addressing issues proactively. The Singapore Consumer Association (CASE) and regulatory bodies oversee fairness; Tanqory intends to meet their expectations voluntarily.
Language: Our terms and customer support in Singapore are provided in English (which is an official language in Singapore). If you require communications in another official language (Chinese, Malay, Tamil), we will make reasonable efforts through support to assist, but our contract will be in English by default (as is common in Singapore commerce). This is not intended to disadvantage consumers, as English is widely used.
In summary, Singapore customers can expect clear disclosure, easy subscription management, and no tricky conditions. We follow Singapore’s consumer protection principles by ensuring transparency and honoring your choices (subscribe or cancel) promptly.
Japan
For customers in Japan, Tanqory operates in compliance with Japanese laws, including the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions (特定商取引法) and other consumer protection regulations:
Act on Specified Commercial Transactions (ASCT) Disclosures: Tanqory is categorized as an online service, which means it falls under “Mail Order Sales” in the ASCT. We maintain a “Notation based on the Specified Commercial Transactions Act” on our website (often linked in the footer) where we provide all legally required information in Japanese. This includes the service provider’s name (our company name and representative), address, contact information (telephone and email), the service’s price and any additional charges (e.g., taxes or payment fees), payment methods and timing, delivery timing (immediate access upon signup), the conditions for cancellation or refund, and so forth. These disclosures are provided in Japanese for customers in Japan, as required. We ensure they are easy to find before you complete a purchase, often labeled “特定商取引法に基づく表示”. By law, we must also email or provide a written confirmation of the contract details at purchase, so expect an email receipt with the required info.
No Cooling-Off for Online Sales: In Japan, there is no automatic cooling-off period for mail order/online sales. Unlike door-to-door or telemarketing sales which get a cooling-off (8日間 for 特定継続的役務等 in some cases), online transactions are exempt from statutory cooling-off. Therefore, when you subscribe to Tanqory, you do not have a legal right to unilaterally cancel for refund just because you changed your mind, once the service has begun. Our own refund policy (detailed above) will apply. That said, Japan’s Consumer Contract Act allows you to cancel a contract if it was formed by mistake due to misleading conduct, etc., or to void unfair terms. We, of course, do not engage in any such misleading conduct; everything about pricing and renewal is clearly stated. So the standard rule is: sales are final after the free trial (if any) or after purchase. We do allow cancellation going forward at any time (stop future billing), as described. But please note, we generally will not offer a refund for past periods unless there was a defect in service. This is consistent with Japanese e-commerce norms (e.g., many services are prepaid and non-refundable). We believe this policy does not contradict Japanese law, as long as it’s disclosed and no statutory cooling-off applies.
Specified Continuous Service Offers (特定継続的役務提供): Japan designates certain types of long-term services (like language classes, marriage agencies, fitness clubs, etc.) for special regulation, including an 8-day cooling-off. Tanqory’s service (e-commerce platform software) is not one of the seven specified services in that category. Thus, those specific cooling-off rules for specified services do not apply to us. If that law ever extends to SaaS or if Tanqory offered something like an educational service that fell under it, we would comply, but as of now it doesn’t.
Continuous Subscription Terms: Although Japanese law doesn’t force a cooling-off for online subscriptions, it does require that contract terms, especially about automatic renewal or cancellation, are clearly communicated. We outline in Japanese when you subscribe that the plan will auto-renew monthly/annually until canceled. Japanese customers must actively tick a box or click a button to agree, which constitutes consent. If you want to cancel, you can do so through your account at any time, effective end of the current period. We make sure this process is straightforward and described in the terms (利用規約) and help center.
Mid-Term Cancellation and Fees: If you were on a fixed-term plan and wanted to cancel early, Japanese law (Consumer Contract Act) would scrutinize if we tried to impose a hefty penalty. We do not have fixed-term contracts beyond the prepaid period, and we do not impose separate cancellation fees. For monthly plans, you pay monthly and can quit any month – no extra fee. For annual prepaid plans, if you cancel mid-term, we don’t charge any additional fee or penalty; you simply won’t get a refund for the remaining months (since you got a discounted annual rate). We believe this approach is fair and typical. If Japan’s law required a pro-rata refund for unused service in certain cases, we would comply, but currently it doesn’t unless our terms were found to be grossly unfair. We don’t consider keeping the fee for a committed annual plan unfair, given it’s discounted and the user agreed – it’s common in software subscriptions.
Payment in JPY and Tax: We charge Japanese customers in Japanese Yen (JPY). Our prices for Japan include Japanese consumption tax if applicable. Under Japanese law, electronic services provided by foreign companies to consumers in Japan are subject to Consumption Tax, and we are registered for Japanese tax via the OSS (if required). We either charge consumption tax on your bill or treat our prices as tax-inclusive – either way, we handle the tax compliance. The invoice/receipt you receive will show the tax if charged.
Data Privacy: (Not exactly subscription terms, but notable) Any personal data of Japanese users is handled per the Act on Protection of Personal Information (APPI). Payment info is processed securely. We may store minimal data in Japan if necessary for performance, or else in compliance with cross-border rules.
Contact and Support: We provide a Japanese-language support channel (either via email or web form) for customer inquiries, as required by good practice in Japan. If you email us in Japanese, we will respond in Japanese. We also list a contact address in Japan or an agent (especially since we must on our Specified Transactions page provide either a Japanese address or note that it’s a foreign entity and list the foreign address, and a phone number for inquiries). We strive to respond promptly to any request to cancel or any complaint – this helps avoid any dispute escalation.
Dispute Resolution: In the unlikely event of a dispute, Japanese consumers can seek help from local consumer centers (消費生活センター) or via the court system. Our Terms of Service might have an arbitration clause or foreign choice of law, but under Japanese Consumer Contract Act, certain clauses that deprive consumers in Japan of their usual legal protections could be void. To be clear: Japanese law may apply to your contract (especially since we market in Japanese and target Japan). We are amenable to resolving issues under Japanese consumer laws. We do not intend to force Japanese consumers to only litigate overseas or anything that burdens them unduly.
In summary, Japanese customers should expect a transparent transaction with all required information provided, no automatic right to cancel after purchase (aside from our own policy), but also no undue hurdles in stopping the service. We play by the rules set by Japanese law to ensure your subscription experience is trustworthy and in full compliance.
South Korea
For customers in South Korea, Tanqory complies with the Electronic Commerce Consumer Protection Act (ECCPA) and guidelines from the Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) regarding online subscriptions and payments:
7-Day Refund for Unused Services: Under Korean law, specifically recent KFTC decisions, if you are charged for a subscription renewal, you are generally allowed to cancel within 7 days of the charge and request a refund of that period, provided you have not used the service during that time. Tanqory will honor this: if your subscription renewed (say on the 1st of the month) and within 7 days you decide you didn’t want it and you have not materially used the service, contact us to cancel and request a refund for that month. We will verify usage (e.g., if you’ve logged in or utilized paid features, we may pro-rate or deny if fully used), but if essentially unused, we’ll refund per this guideline. This policy aligns with a 2021 KFTC stipulation that consumers should be able to get a refund when canceling shortly after a billing, which many subscription services in Korea have adopted.
Explicit Consent for Free Trials/Discount Conversions: As of mid-February 2025, Korean regulations require that when a free trial or discounted introductory period is about to convert to a paid subscription, the business must obtain the user’s explicit affirmative consent again, 24 hours prior to the first charge. In practice, this means if you sign up for a 14-day free trial, we will send you a reminder and ask you to confirm you wish to continue before we charge you at the end of the trial (for Korean users). If you do not confirm, we will not automatically start the paid subscription – your trial will lapse without charge. The same applies for a discounted first month that then jumps to regular price: 30 days before the price increase, we will seek your consent to continue. These requirements come from amendments to Korea’s e-commerce law aimed at preventing surprise charges. Tanqory’s systems and processes comply: Korean users will see a pop-up or receive an email requiring them to click “Yes, continue” (or similar) near the end of a trial/promo. If you ignore it, your subscription will be canceled (not charged).
No Dark Patterns – Easy Cancellation: South Korea has explicitly banned certain “dark pattern” practices in subscription services. This includes making the “cancel” button hard to find or nested behind numerous steps. Tanqory ensures that the cancellation process for Korean users is as simple as the sign-up process. For example, if sign-up was one or two steps, cancellation won’t be a labyrinth. We provide a clear “Cancel Subscription” menu option in your account settings. We do not hide it or label it misleadingly. The KFTC listed examples: the cancel button must not be much smaller or more hidden than the purchase button. We abide by that: our cancellation interface is plainly visible and not obscured. Moreover, we won’t require you to call by phone or do any extra ID verification beyond what’s reasonable on the site – you can cancel online. We also won’t use manipulative confirmations (like endless “Are you sure? Here’s an offer!” loops). A single optional retention offer might be presented, but if any, the cancel button will still be prominently available on the same screen. There will be no need to scroll past multiple offers to find it. These commitments align with FTC Korea’s guidance against “interference with cancellation” and “incorrect hierarchy” of buttons.
Pre-Notification of Price Changes: While not unique to Korea, we note that if Tanqory changes its pricing for Korean subscribers, we will inform you in advance consistent with our global policy (30 days notice). Korean law would treat unannounced unilateral price increases as a change in contract requiring consent, so we will either obtain your consent or allow you to cancel. (Korea’s legal framework expects fair dealing; unexpectedly charging more could be an “unfair term” or deceptive practice.)
Pausing Subscriptions: Recent Korean rules disallow companies from “pausing” a customer’s free trial or discounted period as a workaround. For instance, a business cannot let a user pause a trial indefinitely to avoid getting consent. Tanqory doesn’t offer a formal “pause” feature currently; if we ever do, we will ensure it’s compliant (e.g., you cannot pause just to circumvent the new confirmation requirement).
Refunds upon Early Termination: Aside from the 7-day post-billing refund, Korean law (ECCPA) generally provides that if a consumer cancels a continuous service contract mid-term, they are entitled to a refund of the unused portion (though the business can deduct certain amounts for value used or provided benefits). For month-to-month, this is moot (we just stop next month). For annual plans, if a Korean consumer wanted to cancel and get a partial refund of the remaining months, we would handle it according to law: typically pro-rata refund minus any benefits (for example, if a yearly plan had a discount versus monthly, and you cancel early, we might recalc used months at the standard monthly rate and refund the rest). We will not impose a huge penalty for early cancellation. The law in Korea allows charging a small cancellation fee in some cases (usually either a fixed small amount or a percentage cap). We do not presently charge any specific cancellation fee for early termination beyond retaining the value of what was used. So Korean users on long-term plans can feel secure that if they need to exit, they won’t lose all their remaining prepaid value.
Display of Terms in Korean: We provide a Korean-translated summary of key subscription terms for users in Korea. Important details like pricing, contract duration, and cancellation policy are available in Korean on the checkout page or via a link. We also comply with requirements to display vendor information (our business registration or address) on our website for Korean consumers. All of this is part of ensuring our service is transparent and legally compliant in Korea.
Payment Authorization: If paying by Korean-issued credit card, note that Korean banks may also send SMS or app push notifications for recurring charges. Some banks allow a “recurring payment” without additional OTP each time under certain transactions, but others might require SMS approval for each charge above a threshold. This is separate from our system, but we accommodate it. If a recurring charge fails because your card needed approval, we’ll notify you. Also, since late 2021, Korean app stores (Google/Apple) have had to adjust to allow alternate payments – but since Tanqory mostly uses direct web payments, that’s not directly affecting us, except we ensure compliance if we ever integrate in-app payments.
Compliance with local e-commerce laws: We abide by all provisions of the E-Commerce Consumer Protection Act (which includes obligations like sending an order confirmation, allowing contract withdrawal if goods were not delivered as described, etc.). Since Tanqory is a service, not a physical good, some provisions (like return of goods) don’t apply. But provisions on advertising truthfulness and honoring displayed terms do. We also follow the Standardized Contract Regulation – we avoid any contract terms that Korean law has banned as unfair. For example, a term that says “we can change these terms at any time without notice” would be invalid in Korea – hence we always provide notice for changes.
Customer Support and Dispute: We have Korean-speaking customer support contacts to handle any inquiries or issues. If you have a complaint, you can reach us and we will try to resolve it promptly to your satisfaction. Under Korean law, if a dispute is not resolved, you can seek mediation through organizations like the Korea Consumer Agency or report unfair practices to the KFTC. We hope to never reach that stage by being cooperative.
In summary, South Korean users benefit from some of the world’s strictest subscription protections, and Tanqory has adapted accordingly. You will never be charged after a free trial without explicitly saying “Yes” in Korea, you will not struggle to cancel, and if you accidentally miss a cancellation, you have a grace period to get a refund. We respect and implement all these measures to ensure full compliance and customer trust in Korea.
India
For customers in India, Tanqory adheres to the regulations set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for recurring payments and applicable consumer laws:
RBI E-Mandate Requirements: In India, recurring card transactions are subject to strict e-mandate rules (effective since Oct 2021). When you subscribe with an Indian credit or debit card, we will initiate an e-mandate registration process. This typically means you will perform a one-time additional authentication (like entering an OTP sent by your bank) when setting up the subscription. Your bank will also send you a notification (email/SMS) at least 24 hours before each recurring charge is debited. This notification will contain the amount to be charged and a link or instructions on how to cancel the mandate if you choose. Your approval is needed for the first recurring payment and any payment above INR ₹5,000 (the RBI limit for automatic recurring transactions). If your subscription amount exceeds ₹5,000 at any time, the charge will require you to manually authenticate (approve via OTP) each time, or else it will not go through. We have structured our billing to comply with these rules – for instance, if you are on a large annual plan that costs above ₹5,000, we will ensure that you are prompted accordingly. For most subscriptions below that threshold, only the initial OTP is needed and subsequent months are automatic, but you still get a 24-hour prior notice from your bank each time (as per RBI mandate) allowing you to opt-out before the charge.
Failure of Automatic Charge: If for any reason (e.g., you didn’t respond to the bank’s OTP or your bank declines auto-debit) a subscription charge fails, Tanqory will notify you and may provide alternative payment options (such as UPI or manual invoice). RBI rules effectively mean some “automatic” renewals might not succeed without your action. We appreciate your understanding – this is to protect you. We’ll work with you to keep your service active (perhaps by reminding you to complete the OTP in time). If a payment fails and isn’t resolved, we may have to pause your subscription as per our non-payment policy, but we will do so only after giving you a fair chance to pay.
UPI AutoPay: We may support UPI AutoPay for subscriptions in the future. If we do, you would authorize a mandate in your UPI app for the recurring amount. That too has an e-mandate with certain limits but generally is a smoother process for sub-₹5000 charges.
Cooling-Off and Refunds: Indian consumer law (Consumer Protection Act, 2019) does not mandate a general cooling-off for online services, but Tanqory will honor refunds in line with our global policy and any specific Indian law requirements. For example, if a subscription was clearly not delivered or there was a defect, we would refund under consumer grievance redressal norms. Additionally, card network rules in India allow chargebacks for unauthorized charges – but since we comply with RBI’s consent framework, unauthorized charges should not happen. If you believe you were charged wrongly, you can dispute with your bank and we will support the investigation.
Easy Cancellation: You can cancel through Tanqory’s website anytime. Additionally, under RBI’s framework, you can also cancel the e-mandate directly via your bank (for example, through your net banking portal or mobile app where mandates are listed). If you cancel the mandate with the bank, please also inform us or ensure cancellation on our end to sync up. We do not impose any extra steps beyond what RBI mandates. There’s no penalty to cancel; if you cancel mid-month, no further charges will occur. (Note: Because of how Indian banks handle recurring charges, if you cancel with us, we advise also cancelling the mandate at your bank to be doubly sure – though if we stop sending charges, nothing will be debited.)
GST and Invoices: For Indian customers, we will charge GST on our services if applicable. If Tanqory is not established in India, you might be considered the importer of service and responsible for paying GST under reverse charge. However, to simplify, we may include Indian GST in our pricing via an intermediary. We’ll provide tax-compliant invoices upon request. Please consult your tax advisor on obligations. Regardless, all prices will be transparent and inclusive of any taxes or duties we are aware of at checkout.
Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules: While primarily aimed at marketplaces, these rules require transparency in terms and refund policies, which we adhere to. We also provide grievance officer contact info for India if required and respond to consumer complaints within the timelines specified. Our terms are drafted keeping fairness in mind to avoid any “unfair contract terms” under Indian law.
Jurisdiction: Our standard terms may specify governing law outside India, but as an Indian consumer, you are protected by Indian consumer laws. You can seek redress through consumer courts in India despite any jurisdiction clause – Indian law will override for consumer protection matters. We, of course, hope to resolve issues without need for that.
In summary, for Indian users, the main difference you’ll notice is the RBI-mandated extra authentication and notifications for recurring payments. Once that’s done, we aim to provide a seamless experience. We respect all your rights – you can cancel whenever, and we’ll honor that immediately. We are fully aligned with India’s move to empower consumers in recurring payments and have updated our systems to follow those rules strictly.
Australia
For customers in Australia, Tanqory conforms to the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) and related regulations to ensure fairness in subscription contracts:
Clear Disclosure and Consent: In Australia, businesses must not engage in misleading or deceptive conduct (per ACL) and must ensure that any automatic renewal terms are communicated clearly to consumers. Tanqory will plainly state during signup that your subscription will auto-renew and at what interval and price. By completing the purchase, you are providing consent to the recurring charges. We avoid any fine-print surprises – the autorenewal agreement is up-front. This transparency helps avoid any breach of sections 18 or 29 of the ACL regarding misleading representations.
Unfair Contract Terms: The ACL (Part 2-3) voids unfair terms in standard form consumer contracts. A term that causes a significant imbalance and is not reasonably necessary could be deemed unfair. We have reviewed our subscription terms with this in mind. For example, terms that allow us to automatically lock you into a long renewal without escape, or terms that deny you refunds in all circumstances, might be seen as unfair by Australian courts or the ACCC. We ensure our terms are balanced: you have the freedom to cancel any time, we notify you of changes, and we don’t levy large penalties. If any term were ever found unfair, it would not be enforced against you. For instance, automatic renewal clauses themselves are not banned in Australia, but if implemented in a sneaky way, they could be unfair. We follow ACCC guidance by making renewal transparent and giving you control, thus our autorenewal clause should not be considered unfair (it’s standard practice and clearly disclosed). The ACCC has specifically cautioned businesses about hard-to-exit subscriptions as potentially unfair – Tanqory’s easy cancellation and notice policies are designed to comply with that guidance.
Cancellation and Pro-Rata Refunds: Under Australian law, if a service is not provided with due care or as advertised, consumers can seek remedies (refunds, etc.). However, for change-of-mind cancellations, businesses can set their own policy. Tanqory’s policy, as stated, is no refunds for unused periods except in special cases. This is prominently stated, so it forms part of the agreement. The ACL does not mandate a refund for change of mind. Therefore, our no-refund policy for unused term is permissible. That said, if you cancel, we simply stop future billing – you won’t be charged again. We do not enforce the remaining term’s payment except in cases where you agreed to a fixed term. (For monthly subscriptions, there is no fixed term beyond the current month, so no issue. For annual subscriptions paid upfront, you can cancel to stop renewal; if you insist on a pro-rata refund for the unused months, we will consider it but it’s not our standard policy because the plan is sold at a discount with the expectation of a full year commitment. We believe this is transparent and not unfair.)
Renewal Reminders: Australian law doesn’t yet specifically require reminders for auto-renewals (except maybe in specific industries like gyms or insurance), but it’s a good practice. Tanqory will send a reminder before annual renewals (e.g., 30 days prior) as a courtesy to Australian subscribers. This is in line with the notion of not trapping customers. The ACCC has applauded companies that take such steps voluntarily.
Australian Consumer Guarantees (ACGs): Digital services come with guarantees under the ACL – e.g., that services will be rendered with due care and skill, and fit for the purpose advertised. If Tanqory fails to meet these guarantees (for instance, a major problem where the service doesn’t work at all), you are entitled to remedies, potentially including a refund. These guarantees cannot be excluded by contract. So notwithstanding our general no-refund policy, if a significant failure occurs by our fault, Australian consumers can seek a refund or compensation as per law. We fully acknowledge this and would cooperate in providing the appropriate remedy. We do not seek to limit liability for these consumer guarantees in an unlawful way. (If our terms ever said “no refunds whatsoever,” that would be read subject to this – and we’ve carved out above that we do refund for system errors, etc., which aligns with acknowledging our responsibility in such cases.)
Cooling-Off: There is no general cooling-off period for online services in Australia’s federal law. Some state laws had cooling-off for certain contracts (like door-to-door sales, etc.) but nothing that covers a standard online SaaS subscription. Thus, we do not offer a mandated cooling-off. However, we might voluntarily allow cancellations and refunds shortly after purchase on a case-by-case basis if requested, but it’s not a guaranteed right. Many Australian businesses follow a “no refund for change of mind” policy, which is acceptable under ACL as long as it’s clearly stated (the ACL just prohibits saying “No refunds” without clarifying that consumer guarantee rights still exist – we do clarify that errors on our side are refundable).
Payment Methods and Surcharging: Australia prohibits excessive payment surcharges on card payments. Tanqory does not surcharge Australian customers beyond passing what is allowed (we generally include any costs in our price). If we ever added a surcharge for, say, Amex, it would be within the RBA’s rules (cost-based) and disclosed. But as of now, we do not impose separate surcharges; the price you see is the final price.
GST: Our charges to Australian consumers will include 10% GST where applicable. We either have an Australian GST registration or use the overseas vendor registration to remit GST on digital services. The invoice will show that GST was included.
Data Protection: Australia has the Privacy Act which isn’t directly about subscriptions, but we protect your data accordingly. Also, if any financial info breach occurred, we’d notify per Notifiable Data Breach scheme. But we do not store full card details ourselves – our payment processors handle that securely.
Jurisdiction: Our Terms may choose a law outside Australia; however, Australian consumers are protected by ACL regardless. Nothing in our terms can exclude the ACL. We also note that from November 2023, unfair contract terms are not just void but can incur penalties – we are careful to avoid any UCT, as discussed.
In essence, Australian users enjoy robust consumer rights. Tanqory’s subscription terms are designed to be fair and transparent so as not to conflict with those rights. We do not employ any practices that the ACCC would consider “unfair” or misleading. You can subscribe and unsubscribe at your discretion, and you will always get the service you paid for or appropriate remedies if something goes wrong.
Relationship to Other Terms and Policies
These Subscription and Billing Terms are an integral part of Tanqory’s overall Terms of Service and should be read in conjunction with our other policies:
By subscribing to Tanqory, you also agree to our main Terms of Service, which cover general use of the platform, intellectual property, liability limitations, and other important provisions. The Subscription Terms here specialize in payment and renewal matters and supplement the Terms of Service. In case of any inconsistency, generally the more specific term (often these) will govern subscription-related issues, while the general Terms of Service govern everything else. We intend for them to be consistent. These Subscription Terms are provided as a separate, user-friendly document for clarity, but legally they form part of the overall agreement with Tanqory. We may include a link to these Subscription Terms in our main Terms, and vice versa, to ensure you can navigate between them easily.
We maintain distinct but related policies—such as our Refund Policy, Cancellation Policy, Payment Policy, and Tax Policy—which may appear as standalone documents or as sections within these Terms or our FAQs. The commitments set forth in those policies are consistent with the provisions outlined here, and vice versa. For example, our Refund Policy may reiterate that we generally do not offer refunds for unused time unless due to verified technical faults, which aligns with the explanation provided above. Similarly, our Cancellation Policy confirms that you may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings without incurring a penalty—also reflected in the relevant section above. These Subscription Terms are designed to serve as a comprehensive framework that integrates and reflects our broader set of service policies. In the event that we update any of the related standalone policies, we will ensure that these Terms are revised accordingly to maintain consistency and avoid any conflict of interpretation.
The Privacy Policy also plays a role when it comes to billing: it covers how we handle your personal data (like your name, address, and billing info). It informs you about third-party payment processors and data transfers. When you enter payment details, our Privacy Policy explains how that information is protected. We link to the Privacy Policy in our checkout flow as required in many jurisdictions.
If Tanqory’s service is accessed through a third-party app marketplace (such as Apple’s App Store or similar platforms), additional billing terms and platform-specific policies may apply. In such cases, the rules and terms of the respective platform may govern subscription charges, renewals, refunds, and cancellations for transactions initiated through that channel. We will clearly indicate when such platform-specific terms take precedence. For example, if you install or subscribe to Tanqory via an external app store, billing may be handled by that platform, and their terms—including any applicable refund or dispute policies—will apply. In some cases, we may issue service credits at our discretion to address verified technical issues, even if the billing was managed by a third-party platform. When you subscribe to and use Tanqory directly through our website, these Terms (including our billing, refund, and cancellation policies) apply in full. If any Supplementary Terms or platform-specific agreements are relevant, we will reference or link to them clearly to ensure transparency and compliance.
These Subscription Terms are designed to be an HTML-ready, linkable document. We want it to be accessible and clear, possibly hosted on our website as a separate page (like “subscription-terms.html”) that we can reference in sign-up flows and help articles. This way, whenever customers have questions about billing, we can point them to this comprehensive resource. Because it is separate and specific, it can be updated (with notice to users as required) without overhauling the entire Terms of Service each time.
Updates to Terms: If we need to update these Subscription Billing Terms, we will notify users in advance, just as we do for our main Terms of Service (typically via email or in-app notice). Continued use of the service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms, but for material changes, we may specifically seek your consent if required by law (particularly in some of the jurisdictions mentioned above, changes might require opt-in – we will handle that accordingly).
Severability: If any provision of these Subscription Terms (or a region-specific clause) is found invalid or unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. For example, if a law changes making our no-refund clause illegal in one country, that clause would be severed or modified for that country, but the rest of the terms remain applicable. We’ve written region-specific sections to try to pre-empt that by modifying terms per country as needed.

- Notice Timing Examples (apply where mandatory): Annual renewals (CA 15–45 days; FR/BE pre-renewal reminders; QC 90–60 days; ON ~30 days), free trials >31 days (CA 3–21 days pre-conversion), continuous plans (CA annual reminder every 12 months), SEPA DD pre-notice 14 days unless waived.
- Mandatory Remedies Override: If local law grants a compulsory remedy (e.g., EU/UK lack-of-conformity refund/price reduction; AU consumer guarantees; KR 7-day refund of a renewal if unused; QC/ON refunds when renewal notice absent; IN chargebacks per network/RBI), that remedy overrides our general no-refund rule in that jurisdiction.
- Language/Localization: Where law requires local language (e.g., FR for Quebec/France; localized key terms in JP/KR), we provide mandated language/summaries. If a mandated local-language version conflicts with English, the consumer-protective local version prevails where law requires.
- App Store / Third-Party Billing: If purchased via app stores/third parties, their billing/refund/renewal rules may govern; we will flag when those terms take precedence.
- Price/Term Changes Requiring Consent: Jurisdictions like California ARL (price increase) or forthcoming UK DMCC may require opt-in; we will seek explicit consent where required and will not renew on changed terms without it.
